SPIE strengthens hospital environment expertise

Brussels, 12 April 2018 - SPIE Belgium, a subsidiary of the SPIE Group, Europe's leading independent provider of multi-technical services, has been active in the hospital sector for many years. Recently, its expertise enabled it to carry out several operations with specific challenges. Focus on three SPIE Belgium references in the medical sector: the Ambroise Paré University Hospital in Mons, AZ Delta in Roeselare and UZ Leuven in Leuven.

Each of these three sites was a real challenge for SPIE in its own way. Working in a hospital environment represents a major challenge. The operation of the hospital and its equipment cannot be interrupted at any time, patients and medical staff are continuously present, and medical services must be provided 24/7.

These sites presented specific challenges that SPIE Belgium was able to meet. For the Ambroise Paré academic hospital in Mons, SPIE helped assemble prefabricated modules in Germany. This turnkey project required the presence of a SPIE team on the German assembly site to coordinate prefabrication. The team working on this project also had to be present on the Mons site to ensure the integration of the modules into the hospital. This approach required a high degree of flexibility in terms of the (international) mobility of employees.

Moreover, SPIE Belgium regularly had to mobilize all its efforts at both AZ Delta and UZ Leuven. Whether it was the extension of the new clinic in Roeselare, the construction of the largest operating theatre in Western Europe or the design and construction of a proton therapy centre at UZ Leuven, SPIE's multidisciplinary teams were always operational.. Organizing work on site, reducing noise and dust pollution to a strict minimum, arranging for deliveries during off-peak hours, coordinating interventions at night and on weekends, ensuring the clinic's electricity and comfort at all times and, above all, creating a safe working environment are all tasks that SPIE attends to day in and day out.

In recent years, SPIE Belgium has managed a number of hospital projects, either on its own or on a subcontracting basis, such as the AZ Jan Palfijn in Ghent, the OLV Ziekenhuis in Aalst, the AZ Alma in Eeklo and the AZ Groeninge in Kortrijk, to name but a few.

A fine range of references that positions SPIE Belgium as an essential multidisciplinary partner in the hospital sector.

SPIE's vocation is to assist its customers in the construction of new facilities and the maintenance of existing ones.
