SPIE chosen by Befimmo for the renovation of the “Brederode Corner” building
SPIE Belgium, a subsidiary of SPIE, an independent European leader in multi-technical services in the fields of energy and communication, was selected as a partner for the heavy renovation of the “Brederode Corner” office building. The workers are carried out by Befimmo, a real estate operator specialized in office buildings.
Befimmo embarked on heavy renovation works on the “Brederode Corner” building in April 2018. Situated in a shopping street, close to the Royal Palace and the main cultural and historical sites of Brussels, this building will play host to prestige tenants. SPIE Belgium will work on the entire building, i.e. more than 6,500 m² of floor space, and will be in charge of the following: HVAC, electricity, sanitary facilities and fire system automation.
As the delivery period is very short (one year), SPIE Belgium decided to assign no fewer than 30 employees (engineers, worksite and administrative staff) to this multi-technical contract. The Group moreover plans to produce its models in BIM (Building Information Modelling). The use of such digital models means a better organization of the construction process and facilitates the exchange of information between partners.
The works of SPIE Belgium at the “Brederode Corner” must meet BREEAM standards. This is the frame of reference most widely used to describe the environmental performance of office buildings. Befimmo is aspiring to “Excellent” BREEAM certification for this building.
“We won this very fine multi-technical contract thanks to the listening capacity of our teams which were thus able to meet the requirements of Befimmo,” outlines Christophe Castiaux, Senior Business Development Manager at SPIE Belgium. “Our proposal of a single contact for the different facts was also a decisive element,” he adds. The challenge for real estate clients lies precisely in the comfort, flexibility and modernity they can offer to the occupants of their offices. “To take up this challenge, SPIE teams up with its clients and deploys its teams on all the technical aspects, including environmental performance and data management,” he concluded.
