SPIE installs 100th electric charging station for public transport company De Lijn

Today, as part of its agreements with De Lijn, SPIE Belgium, a subsidiary of the SPIE Group, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, commissioned the 100th electric charging station for De Lijn at the Mortsel site.

De Lijn has taken major steps towards the energy transition. The Flemish transport company aims to provide zero-carbon transport services by 2035. The commissioning of this 100th electric charging station for busses by SPIE Belgium is part of a framework agreement signed in 2021 with SPIE-Ekoenergetyka, a new entity resulting from the partnership between the two companies. It covers the supply and commissioning of up to 252 charging points

A reaffirmation of trust in SPIE Belgium

After a successful initial collaboration, in 2023, De Lijn reaffirmed its trust in SPIE-Ekoenergetyka and signed a new agreement to increase the maximum number of electric charging points to be installed in Flanders by 2032 to 300. The total budget for the entire project amounts to some €42 million, reflecting De Lijn's determination to achieve its target for 2035.

Ann Schoubs, Managing Director of De Lijn explains that "the installation of this 100th charging point is a symbolic milestone in our sustainability plan. Thanks to this collaboration with SPIE-Ekoenergetyka, we are developing the infrastructure needed for the mobility of the future. SPIE-Ekoenergetyka allows us to offer essential charging solutions. We can rely on their expertise in the supply, installation and commissioning of our electric charging stations, which was a key criterion in choosing them as a partner."

With this new assignment for De Lijn, SPIE Belgium strengthens its presence in the public transport network electrification market and continues to develop its technical expertise in its field.

According to Pascal Lekeu, Managing Director of SPIE Belgium, "the electrification of mobility is a major challenge throughout the European Union. The installation and commissioning of this 100th charging station represents an important step in the development of sustainable mobility in Belgium. We are delighted to contribute to the decarbonisation of public transport through this project. De Lijn requires advanced expertise for its electrification projects, which is precisely what we bring to the table, not only for their electrification targets, but also for all optimisation projects and the active maintenance of their services."
